Utility Network GIS - Our Core Service

Pontech > Services > GIS Technology and Solutions > Utility Network GIS – Our Core Service

Pontech is a specialist GIS company with deep expertise in Utility Network GIS solutions for electricity, gas, and water organisations. Since 2007, we have been a trusted technology partner for some of the largest utility companies in Central and Eastern Europe, delivering complex GIS migrations, data model implementations, and long-term technical support.

Our Utility Network projects go beyond technical migration – we ensure that spatial assets are standardised, optimised, and fully integrated into operational workflows, enabling utilities to manage and optimise their infrastructure with confidence.

Our Clients and Partners

From our founding in 2007, we have established long-term partnerships with leading utility companies across the region, including CEZ Group, Electrohold Bulgaria, DEO Romania, and others. Our success is built on an individual approach to each client and the stable, trust-based relationships we maintain.

GIS implementation and Utility Network migration

What We Deliver

> GIS implementation and Utility Network migration – full project lifecycle from assessment to post-migration support
> Data model design and configuration – schema setup, symbology, labelling, and cartographic representation
> System integration – connecting Utility Network GIS with third-party applications and operational systems
> Data preparation and quality assurance – cleansing, validation, standardisation, and resolution of spatial discrepancies
> Testing and validation – network connectivity, data integrity, and system performance verification

Our Migration Methodology

During Utility Network GIS migrations, our team of specialists follows a structured, proven approach:
1. Assessment and Planning
We conduct a thorough assessment of existing GIS data, infrastructure, and workflows. We define the scope and objectives of the migration, identify stakeholders, establish clear communication channels, and develop a detailed plan with timelines, milestones, and resource requirements.
2. Data Preparation
We cleanse and validate existing GIS data to ensure accuracy and completeness. Data formats and schemas are standardised to align with Utility Network requirements. Inconsistencies and spatial discrepancies are resolved before migration begins.
3. Configuration and Customisation
We configure the Utility Network schema and data model to the organisation’s requirements. Symbology, labelling, and cartographic representations are customised to enhance visualisation and analysis. Third-party applications are integrated as needed for specialised functionality.

4. Testing and Validation
We conduct rigorous testing of the Utility Network infrastructure and workflows, validating data integrity, network connectivity, and system performance under various scenarios. All issues discovered are identified and resolved before go-live.
5. Migration Execution
We execute the migration plan according to established timelines and milestones, monitoring progress closely and addressing unforeseen challenges promptly. Cross-functional coordination ensures a smooth transition with minimal disruption to operations.
6. Post-Migration Support
We provide ongoing technical support and troubleshooting after go-live. Stakeholder feedback is captured and incorporated into system improvements. We continue to monitor performance and implement optimisations as the system evolves.

Primary Focus on Utilities

> GIS Data collection – HV, MV and LV cables and overhead lines; Drone data collection for MV overhead lines; Back Office data preparation; Automated import of collected data. Drone data collection for LV, lidar data collection and 360 degree pictures
> GIS Database maintenance – Standardization; Migrations; Cleansing; GIS data maintenance methodology.
> Integration with other systems that use GIS data – Custom Exporter tools developed for ADMS and AMS integrations; DWG import tool for automated As-Builts and collection projects data import; SAP and WFM interfaces and services for integration.
> Implementing ArcFM Standard functionalities – Session Manager (creation and editing of sessions with specific structure and user roles) and Feeder Manager 2 (connectivity rules of the GIS electricity model).
> ArcFM WEB implementation and configuration – A web based application that gives access to the GIS data from everywhere, anytime and from any device; View, query, edit and analyze GIS data; Access feeder information; Import/export data from/to various sources.
